I will be updating this blog during my year spent in Huancayo, Peru (the full explanation is in the first post). Bear with me as I get used to this blogging thing – it’s a bit new to me!
For those of you who don’t know me well… I was born and raised in Alaska, but have been consumed with travel lust ever since I can remember. Things have changed since the days when I would pack my pink plastic backpack full of toys for the plane ride (now my backpack is green, and I also bring along toothpaste and a camera), but the thrill of hitting the road hasn’t faded. I knew I wanted an international career once I finished my time as a highschool exchange student in New Zealand, and once I began college I realized I wanted to be doing something with myself that positively impacted those whom I interacted with while traveling. I’ve since found out that those who I meet on my travels do more for me than I have ever been able to do for them, and I am constantly humbled by the graciousness and hospitality of the many friends I have made. Thus far I’ve spent time in Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, England, France, Morocco, Canada, and a number of states within the U.S. Some of these trips have been for educational purposes, some to see old friends, and some simply to satisfy curiosity. Whatever the purpose, I have come away with new insights from the people I meet in each new place, and I’m sure Peru will be one of my most formative trips.
During my time abroad I hope, dear readers, to both entertain and inform you. Please feel free to contact me via my blog with any questions, comments, or just to say hi. Chances are that I miss you already.
